As we approach our daughter's dia-versary, marking the time she has been living with type 1 diabetes for longer than she hasn't, we are filled with a mix of emotions. It's been a hard yet amazing 8-year journey. Now, at 15, she is doing what every teenager should be doing, living life to the fullest, just with an added aspect - she is a 15-year-old girl living with type 1 diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is not a choice, but how we respond to it is. Our daughter has shown us the resilience and determination that we can only admire. She has faced the challenge head-on and made it a part of her identity. It's not easy, but with the right mindset, the right technology and the right support, it's manageable albeit very difficult at times
To help her along her journey, we have focused on ensuring her safety without compromising her style. This is where medical ID jewellery comes into play. These aren't just any ordinary pieces of jewellery. They are fun, funky, and serve a significant purpose - keeping you safe and helping first responders help you quickly in case of an emergency.
At My Identity, we understand the importance of feeling good about the things you wear. We believe in combining safety with style. Our medical ID jewellery is designed to be something that people want to wear. It's not just about carrying your medical information with you; it's about expressing yourself and making a statement.
In this journey with Type 1 Diabetes, there are some people that deserve utmost gratitude.
To the inventors of insulin, their groundbreaking work has been crucial in this battle against diabetes. Without them, our treasured ones would not have the chance to live life to its fullest potential.
To the medical professionals at Starship Children's Hospital, their unwavering care and support have made a world of difference in our journey. Their commitment and dedication are truly inspirational and never failed to give us hope even in the toughest of times.
To the creators of the insulin pump, these devices have revolutionised diabetes management, making it far more variable and adaptable on a daily basis.
To the inventors of the CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor), their innovation has changed how we manage diabetes to an extent that has allowed us much-needed rest. Their creation has given us peace of mind, knowing that our child is safe even while sleeping. Let's hope they are funded in New Zealand soon.
And last but certainly not least, to Payton, for being so utterly amazing. Your spirit, strength, and resilience have taught us more than you could ever know. You inspire us every day with your positivity and determination.
All these people have made a significant difference in our lives, and for that, we are profoundly grateful. As we embrace this journey, we stand tall in the knowledge that with their expertise and our daughter's unyielding spirit, we have everything we need to tackle this head-on.
Also thanks to my husband for picking up the pieces when I couldn't.
